We hope you get great use out of the Lenovo E7!

The Lenovo E7 has been shipped with a SIM card in box. This SIM does not need to be inserted into the tablet. It has been supplied in the event that a verification code is needed for downloading or updating a communications app like WhatsApp.

The E7 is ready for use immediately – all you need to do is connect it to a Wifi network. WhatsApp and various app’s are already set up and ready to go with the phone number attached to the front of the tablet.

This page contains information about how to use the tablet including the preconfigured apps. You can follow these guides and they should explain the usage of each, but if you have any problems please call 01 963 3288 to speak to the Covid19 Tech helpdesk or submit an email request using the form at the bottom of the page, and we’ll call you back.

App Usage

Receive a call

  • If your tablet is locked, you’ll see a full screen incoming WhatsApp Audio call or WhatsApp Video. To answer: Swipe up on the green or blue shaking icon at the bottom of the screen.
  • If your phone is unlocked, you’ll see an Incoming voice call or Incoming video call notification at the top of the screen. Tap the green ANSWER button to Accept.

Make a call

  • First you need to tap the icon in the bottom right.
  • WhatsApp requires a Contact to be set up in the tablets Address Book before you can make an outbound call to it.
  • If you have not yet created the contact for the person you are looking to call:
    • Tap New Contact and add the phone number (other details are all optional) and tap Save.
    • Tap the control at the bottom of the screen and then you should see the phone number listed on the main page.
  • Tap the phone number to open the Chat screen, then tap either to start a video call or to start an audio only call.

Join a Meeting

  • Open Zoom.
  • Tap Join a Meeting if you want to join without signing in.
  • Enter the Meeting ID that you’ve been given and a Name.
  • (Optional) If you don’t want video enabled tap Turn Off My Video.
  • Tap Join Meeting.

NOTE: Hangouts automatically ignores incoming calls from “new” contacts as it considers them to be spam.

If you are not getting any prompt and you know a call is being attempted:

  1. Open Hangouts
  2. Tap the menu icon in the top right
  3. Tap Invitations (if prompted tap OK on the “Friends can now reach you directly” popup)
  4. The caller should be listed in the “Spam” list. Just tap ACCEPT.
  5. Ask them to call again.

Receive a call

NOTE: Hangout incoming call notifications can behave a little unpredictably. For best results have Hangouts open and on the main page.

  • If your tablet is locked, you may not see any notification at all. Please ensure the tablet is unlocked and Hangouts is open. If you do you have to swipe the call logo (in the black box) to the right to answer.
  • If your phone is unlocked and in Hangouts, you’ll either see an Incoming voice call or Incoming video call notification at the top of the screen or simply the contact calling you may show as in an “Ongoing Call“. Tap the green ANSWER button to Accept or tap on the contact.
